With the 11th and
last football game looming, the Lions look to end a strong season on a high
note.
After Central Missouri spoiled
the day for the Lion seniors last Saturday, they are looking towards the game
in Edmond, Oklahoma as their going out party.
“We got one more homecoming,”
senior linebacker Christian Golder said.
The Central Oklahoma Broncos —like
Central Missouri —is a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association
conference program. LU will be joining this conference in 2012, and be able to
participate in the playoffs in 2013.
“We are a quality football
team,” head coach Patrick Ross said. “I know we are not that far away [from
being able to compete.]
The Lions have upset a couple
of teams this season when they beat NCAA Division 1 Football Championship Series
Northern Colorado and Division 2 powerhouse Texas A&M Kingsville. Both were
road games.
The Lions would like to have their
first MIAA win before they head into next year when most of the schedule
consists of MIAA teams.
“We are not shocked at the level
of the MIAA,” Ross said. “The thing is to be consistent every week.”
“Next year all 11 games we have
to play 60 minutes if we want a winning record,” LU junior quarterback John Uribe
said.
The Broncos have a 2-8 record,
but have faced excellent teams.
Kickoff is 2 p.m. in Edmond, Oklahoma.
